A History of Tina’s Pound Cake
Ever since I was a child one of my fondest memories was my Grandma baking in her kitchen in Brooklyn, NY. Cooking with my Grandma was always my favorite thing to do. Even as a child I knew that her dishes and her recipes were as incredibly unique as her heritage. My favorite thing to make and eat with my Grandma was of course dessert. And my favorite dessert was, as she used to say, “Her Special Pound Cake”. This special recipe was eventually given to me where over the years I have added my own special touches.
Fast forward to 2002, where I am an executive at a big Insurance company, where my career has taken priority over the years but I always found time to personally bake all of Tina’s Pound Cake and give it away as presents and treats. My staff over the years always looked forward to receiving their Holiday gift from me of a Tina’s Pound Cake. Their holiday table would not be complete without it. Family and friends would always expect and look forward to it. The joy of seeing the smiles, hearing the comments and reading the thank you cards about how much they enjoyed Tina’s Pound Cake gave me so much joy. Over the years, Tina’s Pound Cake has been on display and devoured at many of weddings, special events, and BBQ’s and family dinners. It has also been a splendid business gift that many businesses have given to their important clients and is most memorable and appreciated year after year. The customers now request it by name and hope they will be on the Tina’s Pound Cake list every year!
I would always give my boss Tina’s Pound Cake as a holiday gift. I can best describe him as someone who ate to live but did not live to eat. His reaction and raving comments about how this was the most decadent but delicate and memorable pound cake he had ever eaten started me to think. Could I make a business of this? This was not a man that was known for such emotion. He even said to me, you should make a business of this. Soon after Tina’s Pound Cake was born.
